Ringing of the Bell and Welcome
Hymn “Children of the Heavenly Father” LSB 725
Invocation – In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Opening Sentences – Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.
Confession Psalm 145:18; 50:15; Isaiah 55:6; 1 Samuel 3:9
As the psalmist declares, the Lord searches us, knows us, is ever-present with us, and
leads us. He listens to us as we speak to Him, as we confess our sins to Him and as
we ask for His forgiveness. Let us confess our sins to God our Father.
We observe a time of silence to confess those sins weighing heavy on our hearts.
All: “The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”
We confess, heavenly Father, that we often choose not to call on You in times of
need, or in times of thanksgiving. We fail to take the opportunity to pray to You and give You all praise, and glory. Forgive us. You have promised; “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” We confess, that in our days of trouble we rely on ourselves and not You. We seek deliverance through our own devices, and peace through the temporary offerings of this world. Forgive us. Your Son has told us, “Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.” We confess, heavenly Father, we are the ones who walk away from You even though You are near to us in Your Word, care, and protection. Our unrepentant sins of thought, word, and deed separate us from You. For the sake of Jesus Christ, You Son, our Lord, forgive us all our sins and restore us in Your grace and love. Amen
Absolution
Upon this your confession, I as a called and ordained servant of the Word, Jesus
Christ, announce His grace unto you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord
Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Introit Psalm 32:1-11; antiphon vs 11 – Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart! Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
Kyrie – In peace let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For the peace from above and for our salvation let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For the peace of the
whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all let us pray
to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord. Amen.
Salutation The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Prayer of the Day – Almighty God, our heavenly Father, Your mercies are new every morning; and though we deserve only punishment, You receive us as Your children and provide for all our needs of body and soul. Grant that we may heartily acknowledge Your merciful goodness, give thanks for all Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Old Testament Reading Isaiah 12:1-6 – In that day you will say: “I will praise you, LORD. Although you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you have comforted me. Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my defense ; he has become my salvation.” With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. In that day you will say: “Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing to the LORD, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world. Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.”
Our Epistle or New Testament Reading 2 Corinthians 5:16-21 – So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against
them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore
Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore
you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be
sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Gradual and Verse – O come, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. The father said to his servants, “This my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.”
Holy Gospel Luke 15:1-3, 11-32
The Holy Gospel according St. Luke, the Fifteenth chapter. Glory to You, O Lord.
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the
Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats
with them.” Then Jesus told them this parable: vs11-32 Jesus continued: “There was
a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my
share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them. “Not long after that, the
younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in
that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a
citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his
stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have
food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father
and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer
worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ So he got up
and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and
was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and
kissed him. “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against
you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants,
‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on
his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this
son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to
celebrate. “Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house,
he heard music and dancing. So he called one of the servants and asked him what
was going on. ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the
fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’ “The older brother became
angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. But he
answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never
disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate
with my friends. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with
prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’ “‘My son,’ the father said,
‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and
be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is
found.’” This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ.
Hymn “If Your Beloved Son, O God” LSB 568
Sermon
Apostle’s Creed – I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayers of the Church
We Gather our Tithes and offerings
Service of the Sacrament
Preface 2 Timothy 4:22 – The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
Proper Preface – It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who overcame the assaults of the devil and gave His life as a ransom for many that with cleansed hearts we might be prepared joyfully to celebrate the paschal feast in sincerity and truth. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and singing:
Sanctus LSB 178
Prayer of Thanksgiving
Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom
You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our
Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-
availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and
the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us
with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom,
which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You
alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
The Words of Our Lord – Consecration of the Elements
Proclamation of Christ 1 Corinthians 11:26; Revelation 22:20 – As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and blood to eat and to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, Your blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resurrection from the dead, Your ascension into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment. So remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray:
The Lord’s Prayer – Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the
power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Pax Domini – The peace of the Lord be with you always. Amen

Post-Communion Thanksgiving – Oh Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His steadfast love endures forever. Gracious God, our heavenly Father, You have given us a foretaste of the feast to come in the Holy Supper of Your Son’s body and blood. Keep us firm in the one true faith throughout our days of pilgrimage that, on the day of His coming, we may, together with all Your saints, celebrate the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom which has no end; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Benedicimus – Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God.
Benediction – Numbers 6:24–26
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be
