Altar Guild for November:  Chris & Serene Seufzer                   Thank you.

GuestsWelcome to Zion.  We are happy to have you worship with us.  Please sign our guestbook located in the Narthex.  About Holy Communion:  We welcome to the Lord’s Table all who have repented of their sins and seek to amend their sinful life; all who believe that Jesus is truly present in, with, and under the bread and the wine; and all who believe that through the words “given and shed for you” forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation are given.  If this is your confession and you are a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, then come with a thankful heart and join us.   If you are a visitor and would like to commune, please talk with Pastor Dan before the service.  To help in preparing to receive Holy Communion open the front cover of the Burgundy hymnal or turn to pages 329 & 330.  Gluten free wafers are available, please talk with an Elder or Pastor before the service if you would appreciate them.

As We Gather As the church year is coming to its end, God our heavenly Father gives us great encouragement that our salvation and deliverance from sin and sorrow is complete because of the forgiveness won for us by the blood of Jesus, the one and only sacrifice for your sin and the source of daily cleansing, faith, hope, confidence, and love.  This faith is certain and full of hope even if what you see in your life seems just the opposite.  As God provided for the widow of Zarephath, and as the widow believed He would provide all she needed as she gave her offering, so He will provide for us all things needed to live in this world and to live with Him eternally.  All we need comes to us through Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice that not only forgives sin, but gives us new life in Him.

Ringing of the Bell and Welcome

Hymn We Praise You, O God”             LSB 785

Invocation – In the name of the Father and of the X Son and of the Holy Spirit.      Amen.

Opening Sentences – Praise the Lord!  Praise the Lord, O my soul!  Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.   I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.  Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God,

Confession and Absolution – The Word of God states; “under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. . . . But Christ has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.”    Let us prepare to receive forgiveness of our sins and the cleansing of our souls from our Savior by acknowledging our need to repent, and then confessing our sins.   We Observe a time of silence to reflect on and confess those sins heavy on our hearts.    All:  Lord God, we come before You this day seeking Your mercy and grace for the forgiveness of our sins and the cleansing of our lives.  We confess to You all our sins, both the wrong we have done as well as the love we have withheld from others and the good we have failed to do for others.  Lord, I am sorry for all my sin.  Lord have mercy on me, a sinner.     God be merciful to you and strengthen your faith.  I, by virtue of my office as a called and ordained servant of the Lord, announce the grace of God to you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ: I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

Psalm 146 – Praise the Lord!  Praise the Lord, O my soul!  I will praise the Lord as long as I live;  I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.  Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.  When his breath departs he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.  Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, who made heaven and earth… The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.  The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous.  The Lord watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.  The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations.    Praise the Lord!  Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.  Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the Lord our God is holy!

Kyrie – In peace let us pray to the Lord.    Lord, have mercy.  For the peace from above and for our salvation let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy.  For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all let us pray to the Lord.  Lord, have mercy.  For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise let us pray to the Lord.  Lord, have mercy.  Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord.   Amen.

Hymn of Praise – This is the Feast – This is the feast of victory of our God.  Alleluia!    Worthy is Christ, the lamb who was slain, whose blood set us free to be people of God.  Power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and blessing and glory are His.    This is the feast of victory of our God.  Alleluia.  Sing with all the people of God, and join in the hymn of all creation.    Blessing and honor and glory and might be to God and the Lamb forever.  Amen  This is the feast of victory of our god, for the lamb who was slain has begun His reign.  Alleluia!  Alleluia!

Salutation – The Lord be with you.      And also with you.

Prayer of the Day – Almighty and ever-living God, You have given exceedingly great and precious promises to those who trust in You.  Grant us so firmly to believe in Your Son Jesus that our faith may never be found wanting; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

Old Testament Reading   1 Kings 17:8-16 – Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: “Go at once to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there.  I have commanded a widow in that place to supply you with food.”  So he went to Zarephath.  When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks.  He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?”  As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.” “As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread-only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug.  I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it-and die.”  Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid.  Go home and do as you have said.  But first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son.  For this is what the Lord , the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord gives rain on the land.'”  She went away and did as Elijah had told her.  So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family.  For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.

Epistle   Hebrews 9:24-28 – For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence.  Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own.  Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world.  But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.  Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Gradual – These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation.  They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.  Blessed are those whose strength is in you, O Lord, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.

Holy Gospel       Mark 12:38-44 – The Holy Gospel according St. Mark, the Twelfth chapter.       Glory to You, O Lord.      As he taught, Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law.  They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted in the marketplaces, and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.  They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers.  Such men will be punished most severely.”  Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury.  Many rich people threw in large amounts.  But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny.  Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.  They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything–all she had to live on.”     This is the Gospel of the Lord.   Praise to You, O Christ.

Hymn  “We Give Thee But Thine Own”      LSB 781

Sermon

Apostle’s Creed – I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.  And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the Church

We Gather our Tithes and Offerings

Service of the Sacrament

Preface   2 Timothy 4:22 –  The Lord be with you.  And also with you.  Lift up your hearts.  We lift them to the Lord.  Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.  It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

Proper Preface – It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who, out of love for His fallen creation, humbled Himself by taking on the form of a servant, becoming obedient unto death, even death upon a cross.  Risen from the dead, He has freed us from eternal death and given us life everlasting.  Therefore, with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and singing:

Sanctus   LSB 178

Prayer of Thanksgiving – To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

The Words of Our Lord – Consecration of the Elements

Proclamation of Christ  1 Corinthians 11:26; Revelation 22:20 – As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.      Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.    O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and blood to eat and to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, Your blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resurrection from the dead, Your ascension into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment. So remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray:

The Lord’s Prayer – Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.       Amen.

Pax Domini – The peace of the Lord be with you always.   Amen

Post-Communion Thanksgiving – Oh Give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good.  His steadfast love endures forever.    Gracious God, our heavenly Father, You have given us a foretaste of the feast to come in the Holy Supper of Your Son’s body and blood.  Keep us firm in the true faith throughout our days of pilgrimage, that on the day of His coming, we may together with all Your saints celebrate the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom which has no end.  We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.     Amen.

Benedicimus – Let us bless the Lord.      Thanks be to God.

Benediction      Numbers 6:24–26 – The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and + give you peace.   Amen.
