Altar Guild for November:  Chris & Serene Seufzer     Thank you.

GuestsWelcome to Zion.  We are happy to have you worship with us.  Please sign our guestbook located in the Narthex.  About Holy Communion:  We welcome to the Lord’s Table all who have repented of their sins and seek to amend their sinful life; all who believe that Jesus is truly present in, with, and under the bread and the wine; and all who believe that through the words “given and shed for you” forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation are given.  If this is your confession and you are a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, then come with a thankful heart and join us.   If you are a visitor and would like to commune, please talk with Pastor Dan before the service.  To help in preparing to receive Holy Communion open the front cover of the Burgundy hymnal or turn to pages 329 & 330.  Gluten free wafers are available, please talk with an Elder or Pastor before the service if you would appreciate them.

As We Gather  As we celebrate All Saints we are reminded that our gathering to worship and praise our Lord and His Son is a greater assembly than those in our sanctuary.  As we worship on this side of the Altar, all who have gone to heaven are gathered at the same altar of our Lord in heaven!  They are with us and described in Hebrews as “a great cloud of witnesses”.  Their example of faith in our lives guide us as we live our faith as we look forward to joining them in heaven in perfect praise and worship at His heavenly throne.  It is with joy and thanksgiving, that we celebrate the faith which binds us as one in faith with all the faithful, and assures us of everlasting life.

Ringing of the Bell and Welcome

Hymn “Jerusalem the Golden”  LSB 672

Invocation – In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.   Amen.

Opening Sentences Psalm 149 –   Praise the Lord!  Sing to the Lord a new song, praise Him in the assembly of the godly! This is honor for all His children.  Praise the Lord His children!  Praise the Lord!

Confession and Absolution – Beloved children of God, we rejoice to be numbered with the saints.  In confidence, let us come before our gracious Lord to confess our sins and to receive His gracious forgiveness.    All:  Almighty God, we repent our sinfulness inherited from Adam, and our daily manifold sins in thought, word, and deed.  In Your mercy through Jesus Christ our Lord, forgive us.  Create in us clean hearts, O God, that we may serve You as Your redeemed people, now and forever.  Amen     Dear children of God, because of the sacrifice of His beloved Son for the sins of all people, God has promised you, a repentant sinner, His forgiveness.  In the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ, I announce God’s grace to you.  I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the  Son and of the Holy Spirit.  May you each day and for all eternity live as His saints, confident in the bright and glorious future that you have been given in Christ Jesus, your Lord and Savior.  Amen.

Kyrie – In peace let us pray to the Lord.   Lord, have mercy.   For the Peace from above and for our salvation.  For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all let us pray to the Lord.  Lord, have mercy.  For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise let us pray to the Lord.  Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord.   Amen

Hymn of Praise – This is the Feast  LSB 155

Psalm of the Day – Psalm 31 & Revelation 7 – These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation.  They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.     In You, O Lord, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in Your righteousness deliver me.  For You are my rock and my fortress; and for Your name’s sake You lead me and guide me.  Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.   These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation.  They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.  Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.  Amen.

Collect of the Day – Almighty and everlasting God, You knit together Your faithful people of all times and places into one holy communion, the mystical body of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Grant us so to follow Your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living that, together with them, we may come to the unspeakable joys You have prepared for those who love You;  through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen

Our First Reading – Revelation 7:9-17 – After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.  They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.  And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”  All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures.  They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: ”  Amen!  Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever.  Amen!” Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes–who are they, and where did they come from?”  I answered, “Sir, you know.”  And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.  Therefore, “they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.  Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst.  The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat.  For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water.  And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Our Second Reading  – 1 John 3:1-3 –   How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!  And that is what we are!  The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.  Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known.  But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.  Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

Gradual and Verse Revelation and Hebrews –    These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation.  They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.  Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.     Alleluia.  Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us look to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.  Alleluia.

Gospel Reading  Matthew 5:1-12 – The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the fifth chapter.  Glory to you, O Lord.      Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down.  His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.  Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.  Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.  Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.  Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.  Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.  Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.  Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.    This is the Gospel of the Lord.   Praise to You, O Christ.

Nicene Creed – I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.     And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.   And I believe in the Holy Spirit,   the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life X of the world to come.    Amen.

Our Service of Remembering the Saints Given Their Eternal Crown

We remember with thanksgiving those who have gone before us in faith, for they were created by God to offer Him praise and thanksgiving forever.  God gave new life to them through Holy Baptism, nourished them in the company of His people at His Holy Table and in His mercy summoned them into His eternal presence so that they may continue to give Him praise and glory forever in heaven.    All:  We pray heavenly Father that as we remember and honor them, that you would teach us to number our days and through the Holy Spirit enable us to apply our hearts unto Your wisdom, and strengthen us in the confident hope of the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come, so that we too, may realize our Crown of life through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Amen.

We remember and honor:

Betty Hoeft              (October 9, 1937 – November 15, 2023)                        P:  Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write:  Blessed are   the dead who die in  the Lord from now on.”       C: “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will   follow them.”  (Revelation 14:13)

Joelle Sachse             (December 11, 1969 – December 13, 2023)               P:  Whoever serves Me must follow Me; and where I am, My servant also will be.   C:  My Father will honor the one who serves Me.  (John 12:26)

Nancy Kohlhoff        (January 31, 1950 – December 23, 2023)                    P: Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.    C: When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.  (Colossians 3:2-4)

We observe a moment of silence to remember others whom we loved who were given their crown of life this past year.

Prayer –God of grace and mercy, in joyful anticipation of the resurrection unto life eternal, we have remembered before You, relatives, friends, members of this congregation who have gone before us in faith.  We offer to You thanksgiving for the gift of faith and hold fast to the certainty of Your promises that with you live for all eternity those who have died in faith.  Bless the memories of the saints among us and keep us firm in our certain hope of the great reunion to come in Your gracious eternal kingdom. In Jesus’ name we pray,  Amen.

We Celebrate our Lord’s Supper

Preface – The Lord be with you.    And also with you.    Lift up your hearts.  We lift them to the Lord.    Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.    It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

Prayer of Thanksgiving –   It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God.  In the communion of all Your saints gathered into the one body of Your Son, You have surrounded us with so great a cloud of witnesses that we, encouraged by their faith and strengthened by their fellowship, may run with perseverance the race that is set before us and, together with them, receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.  Accept our praise and grant that all who partake of Christ’s holy body and blood this day may be filled with Your heavenly peace and joy.  As we receive the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation, grant that we be sanctified in body, soul, and spirit, and finally be granted our place with all Your saints in glory.  This we ask through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

The Words of our Lord – Consecration of the Elements

All:  O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and blood to eat and to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, Your blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resurrection from the dead, Your ascension into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment. So remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray:

The Lord’s Prayer –   Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

Post Communion Collect –   Eternal Father, You have shown to us, in the words of Jesus Christ, Your Son, the way of those who are truly blessed. Grant us grace to live out our days as Your people who walk in ways of meekness and faith, following the path of our Lord and imitating the faith and virtues of the saints in our lifetimes.  Send Your Holy Spirit to direct and counsel us in all things and bring us at last to Your eternal kingdom. In Jesus name we pray.  Amen
